Avery…

This morning, Anika asked to see the pictures of her with straight hair. We opened up the blog and looked at the last post. Then Avery asked to see pictures of herself. So I started scrolling down. Before the hair was Anika’s soccer, then her surgery, then our vacation without kids. Oops! Poor Avery hasn’t been featured in a blog post for a LONG time. I guess it’s time to write a little something about our two year old.

Avery is our night-owl. I think that when we tuck her in and tell her “good night” she thinks it means, “Time to party…” However, she’s usually quite sneaky about it. She knows that Anika is, well, a tattle-tail. If Avery even so much as sets one toe on the floor, I hear from Anika, “MOM!!!!!! AVERY IS GETTING OUT OF BED!!!” So, Avery has learned to wait until Anika is sound asleep (which doesn’t take too long) and then she makes her way down the stairs. Even after she gets downstairs, she will very quietly tip-toe or crawl to a safe place of hiding, usually under the kitchen table. Just a few weeks ago, while Anne (Sean’s mom) was visiting, Avery snuck out of her bed yet again and started making her way down the stairs. However, this time, the three of us adults were hanging out in the kitchen. We didn’t hear a thing, but at 11:00 when we decided to call it a night, this is what we found on our way to bed…

IMG_2787She fell asleep on the stairs!!!

IMG_2788I don’t know how she didn’t fall down the stairs. What a funny girl.

Just a week ago, Sean had a funny night-time conversation with Avery. The girls had been put to bed, and Sean was studying in the office, which is right next to their bedroom. Again, Avery has a hard time winding down at night, so she just talks. We laugh and laugh as we hear Anika say over and over again, “Avery. Please be quiet! I’m trying to sleep!!!” So on this night, while Avery was running her little mouth, Sean said, “Avery, go to sleep! It’s night-time.” Avery turned on one of her silly voices and said, “No, it’s morning time!” Sean came back with, “No Avery, it’s night-time. Please be quiet.” Well, it didn’t work. She continued to talk and talk. So Sean started in with the threats. “Avery, if you can’t be quiet, I’m going to put you in the crib.” Avery’s response? “No, Dad. I put you in the garbage!!!” Needless to say, Sean had to stifle his laughter before responding. She told him multiple times that she was going to put him in the garbage. Where do these kids come up with these things?!

Okay, I’ve done a lot of typing. I’ll just post a few more pictures of our hilarious toddler.

She got into Mommy’s makeup during Mommy’s Sunday nap. It looks like she knows what to do with mascara! Yikes.

IMG_2807IMG_2810We sure do love this little Avery. She brings so much laughter into our home. It’s going to be an exciting 16 more years of raising this comedian.
